Parenting After Separation Program

Parenting After Separation (PAS) is a 3-hour information session sponsored by the Ministry of Attorney General to help separating parents make informed choices about separation and conflict, taking into account the best interest of their children. PAS sessions, with parents attending voluntarily, were first offered in 4 locations in 1994. The program was expanded to communities throughout BC in 1997. There is no charge for PAS sessions.

Information is presented in lectures, videos, handouts and interaction with participants, and focuses in 3 key areas:

  • the impact of separation on children and adults, and how parents can best help their children through this difficult time,
  • the full range of dispute resolution options available in the justice system, and
  • how the child support guidelines work and how to find out more about them.

Parents do not attend PAS sessions together.

For more information about the PAS Program visit the Dispute Resolution Office website or the Family Justice website.
