Human Rights Protection

The Human Rights Code protects British Columbians from discrimination in areas such as employment, housing, and services and facilities customarily available to the public. Protection from Discrimination gives a brief description of the coverage provided by the Human Rights Code.

More information about the Human Rights Code is available by following the links to the information sheets listed below, and from the B.C. Human Rights Coalition.

The independent Human Rights Tribunal is responsible for dealing with complaints under the Human Rights Code. Information about the Tribunal, including detailed information about how to file a complaint, is available from the BC Human Rights Tribunal.

Human Rights Day

Dec. 10 is Human Rights Day in British Columbia. The B.C. government has issued a proclamation to mark 2013 as the 65th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Human Rights Day, as well as Human Rights Day in British Columbia. Visit the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights website to see the Universal Declaration in more than 300 languages.
