Why should I choose collaborative law instead of court?

Collaborative law:

  • Can be cheaper and faster than going to court. Court can be slow, which can increase the stress of separation on both you and your family.
  • Encourages you and your former spouse to work together and can help you preserve a good working relationship, which is particularly important if you have children. Court, on the other hand, works on an adversarial system, with you and your former spouse automatically on opposite sides.
  • Allows you to keep more control over what happens to you and your family. If you go to court, the judge will decide for you.
In addition, your lawyer is trained both to protect your interests and to work collaboratively with other lawyers. Collaborative lawyers also sometimes bring in other profession.
