Basics of Family Law
Custody, Guardianship, Access
When a couple with children separates, they need to make some very important decisions right away, such as where the children will now live and how each parent can continue to be involved in their lives. This section of the Family Justice web site is for any parents - married, common-law or same-sex - with decisions to make about their children, including:
- parents who are in the process of separating or divorcing
- parents who have already separated or divorced, and who have a current court order or agreement that deals with custody, guardianship and/or access, and
- parents who have never lived together, but need to find some way to share parenting tasks and responsibilities.
We recommend you get legal advice before you make any final decisions about these issues. |
