Basics of Family Law
Custody, Guardianship, Access
I've heard about grandparents or other family members asking for custody or access. How does that work?
Sometimes family members disagree about who the children should spend time with.
The best way to settle this kind of dispute is by coming to an agreement within the family, but if that is not possible, the family member who believes he or she should have access (or custody) can choose to apply to the court for a court order. The judge will make a decision about custody and access based on the best interests of the children.
