Where can I find out more about interpreters and the court process?

Multicultural organizations provide information in many languages other than English. They may know lawyers or counsellors who speak your language, and may be able to help you arrange for an interpreter if necessary. Your local library or community centre can tell you about multicultural groups in your area.

In addition, the Legal Services Society and the Justice Education Society of BC (call 604 660-2847 in Vancouver) offer brochures on the court process in a variety of languages. You can contact them directly to order the brochures, or check the brochure rack at your local court house or your local public library.

A lawyer is also a good source of information and advice about separation and divorce and the court process. Our section on Getting Legal Advice explains what a lawyer can do for you and how to find one you want to work with. Both family justice counsellors and court staff can also tell you about the Provincial Court process, but cannot provide legal advice.
