Supreme Court Civil Rules and Supreme Court Family Rules Forms
On July 1, 2010, new Supreme Court civil rules and Supreme Court family rules came into effect in British Columbia. Learn more about the new rules at: http://www.ag.gov.bc.ca/new-rules/index.htm.
The new rules include 224 forms, many of which have been redesigned to be more user friendly by making greater use of plain language, including more check boxes and clear instructions for users.
The Ministry of Attorney General has created enhanced, online versions of the Supreme Court civil and family forms for use by the public and legal profession.
The forms are provided in an easy to use, saveable and fillable PDF format. Fields in the forms can be filled by cutting and pasting from existing precedents and Word files. The PDF forms can also be e-Filed.
In addition, 17 of the most commonly filed forms have been XML (extensible markup language) tagged. When these "smart" forms are e-Filed through Court Services Online, data can be extracted directly from the form into the courts civil case management system.
Resources have been developed to help members of the profession and public use the new civil and family rules, including completing forms. The Legal Services Society has developed tools for people to use in family-related matters. The Justice Education Society has developed tools for civil-related matters.
