Do I need a criminal record check in order to article?

A criminal record check is required because of the Crown rotation. Students may be put in the position of "working with children" as that term is defined in the Criminal Records Review Act (i.e., ..."working with children directly or having or potentially having unsupervised access to children in the ordinary course of employment or in the practice of an occupation.").

Acting as Crown counsel, articling students are not in the position of representing youth, but rather of prosecuting them and of interviewing them as witnesses.
