Are students provided with continuing legal education during the articling year?
Yes. The Ministry of Attorney General provides articled students with a series of legal education seminars and events throughout the year.
The curriculum is flexible and presentations supplement articles by providing students with important information and the opportunity to meet as a group to share their articling experiences.
Continuing legal education takes a variety of forms, including skills development seminars, scholarly presentations and tours of provincial facilities.
In the past, students have visited the Legislature and attended seminars on:
- the historical evolution of Aboriginal law,
- the treaty negotiation process in British Columbia,
- drafting effective opinions,
- MAG's policy function,
- the principles underlying effective cross-examination, and
- effective Chambers practice.
