How do I apply?

  1. Download an application form and the notice of articles from this web page during January of the year before you want to begin your articles. Applications and the notice of articles are posted to this website in mid-January each year.
  1. For all positions, the Ministry of Justice is particularly interested in receiving applications from indigenous law students. There is also one articling position open only to students who identify as indigenous.
  1. You may apply for all positions you feel you qualify for. Only one application package is required, regardless of how many positions you apply for. However, you are welcome to submit separate applications if you wish.
  1. Your application package must include all of the following documents:
    • completed application form;
    • cover letter;
    • resume, not to exceed three pages; and
    • transcript of law school grades.

    Full instructions for completing the application form are on the form, along with the address to send to and due dates.

  1. Completed application forms, received on or before the due date, will be assessed and a shortlist of candidates determined. Incomplete applications and applications received after the due date may not be considered.
  1. Depending on the number of applications received, applications may be subject to preliminary screening based on law school grades.
  1. All applicants will be contacted by mail or email.
  1. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview before a panel of lawyers. The ministry may arrange videoconference interviews for candidates outside of British Columbia who cannot travel to Victoria or Vancouver.

    Candidates for articles with B.C.’s Prosecution Service will be shortlisted based on their application material and their responses to written questions.

    Candidates for articles with Legal Services Branch will attend an initial interview and shortlisted candidates will have a second interview.
  1. Successful candidates will receive an employment offer by mail.
  1. Successful candidates will be required to undergo criminal record checks.
