Ministry of Justice

Solicitors

The solicitors division is organized into the following groups:

Solicitors provide legal advice to the various ministries of government, as well as work closely with legislative counsel in the drafting and amendment of regulations and statutes that relate to ministry clients. They also work with barristers from both the civil litigation and constitutional and administrative law groups in litigation that arises in connection with ministry clients’ programs and activities.

What former students say about their rotations with the solicitor groups

“I really enjoyed the solicitors’ rotation because it was, surprisingly, in this group that I got the most advocacy experience. For example, it was while I did a rotation with the revenue tax group that I appeared in chambers and, while I did a rotation with the resource and environment group, that I represented the Province in a hearing at the Environmental Appeal Board.”
