Environment, Resource and Aboriginal Law Group
The lawyers practicing Aboriginal law provide advice to ministries and agencies across government on Aboriginal issues, including provincial negotiation teams, legal obligations to Aboriginal people, senior government officials and barristers involved in litigation on Aboriginal issues. Students working in this area will have the opportunity to provide assistance and support to treaty negotiations and may attend negotiation sessions. Students will also be asked to provide opinions on Aboriginal law issues.
Lawyers practicing resource, environmental and land law provide legal advice and opinions to ministries managing the environment, provincial fisheries, forests, mines and minerals, energy, agriculture, lands and other natural resources, as well as climate change issues. They also represent statutory decision-makers from ministry clients in legal proceedings before administrative tribunals, including statutory appeals and other administrative proceedings. Lawyers in this group work with ministry clients by providing advice in relation to land transactions and resource-related tenuring and on issues arising in the administration of environmental and resource-related legislation.
