Mediation and Arbitration Board using Service BC Centres to provide more effective local service
The Mediation and Arbitration Board is using a new approach to providing accessible advice and filing services for its users – landowners and the companies that own sub-surface rights to petroleum, natural gas, coal or minerals, who are unable to agree on the amount of compensation payable for surface access - most of whom are located in the province’s northeast sector.
Recognizing that its relatively small caseload meant a full-time local office was not feasible, but limited, part-time office hours were inadequate, the Board entered into an agreement with Service BC to provide the public with information and forms, and to accept completed applications, five days a week during regular business hours, at the 59 Service Centres located across BC.
In addition, the Service BC Centres in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek will provide more detailed, hands-on assistance to local landowners and oil and gas companies. The Board also continues to use email and toll-free telephone and fax to provide citizens effective access. For more information, you can contact either the Board or ServiceBC.
