How can I find out more about keeping my family safe?

For information about what to do if you fear for your safety or the safety of your children:

  • Call the police if you are in immediate danger, or VictimLINK at 1-800-563-0808 (TTY: 604-875-0885), 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. VictimLINK provides confidential service in all of the major languages spoken in British Columbia.

Please note:
If you have a speech or hearing impairment, you can contact the police or VictimLINK by calling the 24-hour BC Tel Message Relay Centre at 711(TTY/VCO telephone) or 1-800-855-0511(regular telephone).

For legal information and advice:

In addition:

  • Many support groups - such as Women's Shelters or Transition House and Immigrant Settlement Groups - supply legal information as part of their services.
  • If you are of aboriginal descent, you may want to check with your local Native Friendship Centre or Native Community Law office. The Native Courtworker and Counselling Association of BC may also be able to help with legal information.
