I want to change an existing order. How do I do that?

If you or your former spouse have an order for custody, guardianship, access and/or support, and you want to change it, you will need to fill out an application to change or cancel an order (Form 2). The process is similar to obtaining a new order (see How do I obtain a Provincial Court order?).

Application forms and instructions are available free of charge from any Provincial Court.

In addition, the Legal Services Society has published:

  • Two booklets on how to change child or spousal support orders in Provincial (Family) Court, one for couples who agree to the change and one for couples who don't.
  • A video called Making Your Case: The Family Court Process, which shows a couple going through the process of changing a support order in court. The video is available both online and on cassette. To order the cassette for a free two-week loan within BC, fill out the video booking form.
